CSC to resume promotional testing

The efforts of the NJ FMBA and persistence displayed by the NJ FMBA Civil Service Liaison, Kevin Beyrouty, has resulted in a favorable response regarding the resumption of CSC testing status.

All, this afternoon I met with representatives from the Civil Service Commission in regards to the resumption of Promotional Testing. I am pleased to report that promotional testing will be resuming next month in the following manner (some dates are tentative/reliant on Covid protocols)
1st and 2nd Level (Captain/Lieutenant):
Announcement: Feb. 2021
Written Exam: Sept. 2021
Oral Exam: Jan. 2022
Battalion Fire Chief:
Announcement: July 2021
Written Exam: Jan. 2022
Oral Exam: May 2022
Deputy Fire Chief:
Announcement: Dec. 2021
Oral Exam: April 2022
Fire Chief:
Announcement: August 2021
ANY 1st or second level list that expires will be automatically extended for up to 1 year or when the new results are released. Whichever comes first.
Lists that have been exhausted are eligible for Provisional Appointments.
Also, the entry level test was supposed to be held this year, while the Civil Service is looking at all options for this test it’s pretty clear that the entry level testing will be delayed.
For Entry level lists that have already completed the written test and have lists, the Physical Performance test is still being waived indefinitely and will not have to be made up later.
The next few years may be difficult to navigate so it’s important to reach out to me if you have any questions. I can be reached at [email protected], or on my cell, 609-947-8094.
Stay safe,
Kevin Beyrouty
